Below is the Holy Week schedule for 2017:
Sunday, April 9th Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord
Monday, April 10th Chrism Mass - 8:00pm - Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark
Archbishop of Newark, Joseph W. Cardinal Tobin will preside at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart and bless the Sacred Oils to be used throughout the year in the celebration of sacraments. All are invited to attend.
Tuesday, April 11th Tenebrae Service - 8:00 pm in church
Tenebrae is a prolonged meditation on Christ’s suffering. Readings trace the story of Christ’s passion, powerful music portrays his pathos, and the power of silence and darkness suggests the drama of this momentous day. As lights are extinguished, we ponder the depth of Christ’s suffering and death; we remember the cataclysmic nature of his sacrifice as we hear the overwhelming sound of the “strepitus”; and through the return of the small but persistent flame of the Christ candle at the conclusion of the service, we anticipate the joy of ultimate victory. This is a prayerful and powerful way to spend an evening in preparation for the Triduum and the great celebration of Easter. Everyone is welcome.
Holy Thursday, April 13th Liturgy of the Lord's Supper - 7:30 pm
This solemn celebration recalls Christ's institution of the Eucharist during his "last supper" and includes the presentation of the Sacred Oils, symbolic washing of feet and procession with the Eucharist. Church will remain open until 11:00pm for prayer and adoration.
