Catechesis ministries are focused on preparing students for their spiritual life on earth.  Spiritual development ministries provide various opportunities both within and outside of the parish to grow closer to God through shared experiences with others and learning more about the faith.  

ACADEMY OF OUR LADY
Academy of Our Lady (Pre-K through 8th grade parochial school) serves the parishes of St. Catharine and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Ridgewood, and provides a full academic and faith development program through instruction and shared experiences.  


ADULT EDUCATION

Various adult education experiences are sponsored by the parish throughout the year.  Popular topics include spirituality, sacramental catechesis, personal growth, community building and social concerns.  Our parish co-sponsors G.I.F.T. (Growing in Faith and Theology) with neighboring parishes.  Presentation/Workshops are usually offered in the winter.  

BAPTISM PREPARATION PROGRAM
Parents prepare for the Baptism of their children by participating in our preparation program: an evening of fellowship and instruction.  The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated at an afternoon ceremony on a Sunday as well as during Sunday Liturgy 10 times each year.  Contact the rectory during the 7th month of pregnancy to make arrangements. 

BRIDGES TO CONTEMPLATIVE LEARNING WITH THOMAS MERTON

Women and men of the parish are invited to come together eight week sessions to discuss Thomas Merton’s contemplative experience applied to our lives.  A study guide with appropriate reading for each week will be used.  

CHRISTIAN FOUNDATIONS FOR MINISTRY (CFM)
CFM is a program of spiritual formation and education designed for those seeking to enrich their understanding of the Catholic faith, deepen their own spiritual life, become involved in ministry or enhance their current involvement in the Church and in the world.  CFM, which is a three year program, is accredited by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).  Each year of CFM consists of three 8 week cycles.  Courses offered in each cycle meet once a week for two hours.  There is an additional day of retreat in each cycle.  This program is flexible & tailored to meet the needs of today’s active lay person. 

CORNERSTONE
 
A twenty-six hour faith experience (from Friday evening through Saturday evening) for adults providing an opportunity to renew spiritual life through prayer, reflection, small group discussion and liturgy.  It is presented by parishioners in the Pastoral Center.   The next two Cornerstones are February 26-27 for the men and November 12-13 for the women. 

MEN'S SHARING GROUP

Men from the parish meet on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month from 7am-8:30am to share scripture, prayer, community and Christ’s presence in their lives.

MINISTRY OF MOTHERS SHARING (MOMS):  A PERSONAL JOURNAL
This eight week program is offered for the moms of our parish who would like to share with other moms to receive personal and spiritual nurturing.   
 

PRAYER GROUP
This weekly offering of praise to God includes a healing ministry on Tuesdays at 8pm in the Pastoral Center.  A Prayer Request Line is available at 201-796-4636. 
 
PRE-CANA
Engaged couples prepare for the Sacrament of Marriage by attending a workshop related to commitment and the practical aspects of marriage.  Pre-Cana plans must be made through the Archdiocese, Family Life Office.  Contact a priest to discuss plans for the wedding one year prior to the date of marriage. 


RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AND SACRAMENT PREPARATION
Religious Education Program (K through 8) is for children attending public school with a goal to form and inform them in the teachings and traditions of our Catholic faith.  The Sacramental programs prepare the children of our parish to celebrate the Sacraments of Penance, Eucharist, and Confirmation.  It is taught by the parents and reinforced by the teachers in the school and Religious Education Program.  

RETREATS

There is an annual silent retreat of all men in parish held on the third weekend in May at Loyola Retreat House and retreats for women four times per year. 

RITE FOR CHRISTIAN INITIATION  OF ADULTS (RCIA) 
This process of instruction and spiritual growth is for non-Catholics allowing the Spirit to lead them to full initiation into the Catholic Church.   It is also for Catholics who wish to return to the Church or have not celebrated 1st Eucharist or Confirmation.   

VACATION  BIBLE SCHOOL
Vacation Bible School is held in conjunction with The Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for one week during the summer.
