Just as we greet guests to our home, make them feel welcome, and tend to their needs, so do the parishioners who act as greeters and ushers. They serve to make those attending mass feel welcome and comfortable as they gather each Sunday, as well as on Holy Days.
Greeters and ushers arrive well before the beginning of mass to make sure the church is ready for the liturgy, greet people as they arrive, and assist parishioners with seating. During the mass, they take up the collection during mass and attend to the needs of the celebration while remaining available to assist to any needs of the people. When the mass has ended, they hand out weekly bulletins and provide a friendly invitation to return.
Most greeters and ushers serve at a mass of their preference.
