Unfortunately due to COVID-19, we are unable to offer Liturgy of the Word for Children at the present time, but we will be back as soon as we can. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact a ministry leader or call the religious education office at the Parish.
The Liturgy of the Word for children at St. Catharine’s is held during the Sunday 10AM mass beginning in October and ending in April. It is open to all children ages 4 ½ through 4th grade. This program allows children to begin Mass with their family, proceed to the school as a group after the opening prayer, and learn the week's Liturgy in terms specifically tailored to their age group.
Children are divided into three classrooms based on age and classes are taught by church parent volunteers. There is a PreK/K classroom that follows the Seeds teaching guide and a 1st/2nd classroom and 3rd/4th classroom that follow the Good News teaching guide. Children in 5th-8th grade may also attend and be helpers in one of the three classrooms.
Below please find a link to the Seeds and Good News teaching materials:The children then return to their parents in Church following the Prayer of the Faithful. This program gives children a chance to not only learn the same lessons as parents on a more age-appropriate level, but also gives them (and parents) a break from the more adult-oriented format of the Liturgy during Mass.
This program is only possible with the help of our parishioners who volunteer to teach. Over the course of 7 months, a teacher will be asked to teach about 3 or 4 times. However, this amount is flexible. The lessons are given to teachers in advance for review. If you are interested in engaging with the Children of the Parish in this very meaningful way, please feel free to contact Amanda or Sara (contact info below) or the office of Religious Education.
