Each year, more than 4 million people in over 20 countries raise much-needed funds and awareness to save lives from cancer through the Relay For Life movement. Relay For Life teams camp out overnight and take turns walking or running around a track or path at a local high school, park, or fairground. Events are up to 24 hours long, and because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have at least one participant on the track at all times. Glen Rock hosts their Relay for Life in May and St. Catharine provides a luncheon for the cancer survivors who participate.
This ministry plans the menu, does the shopping, and sets up for the luncheon on the Opening Day. Members must also clean-up afterward. This also requires coordinating with the Baking Ministry.
This ministry is ideal for a student looking to fulfill their Community Service requirement for school or Confirmation. The time requirement is about 4-5 hours.
