The mission of the Shawl Ministry is truly two-fold as the work involves both giving and receiving. The giving happens officially twice a month, morning and evening, to accommodate everyone’s schedule. Members meet to create, bless and distribute prayer shawls/lapghans for anyone needing support or encouragement due to an illness, bereavement, job loss or other life challenges or celebrations. The recipients include but are not restricted to requests from parishioners, the homebound, bereavement groups, Family Promise as well as RCIA and Cornerstone participants.
The Ministry welcomes those experienced in knitting and crocheting as well as others wishing to learn. Materials, directions and instruction are offered to all. This fellowship and learning is part of the receiving component of this Ministry along with the grace that the members experience. The members are truly blessed as they share together the beautiful thank you notes received. This gift given to all involved is priceless yet unsolicited.
Meetings are normally held in the Ministry Center first floor meeting room at 10:00 am on the second Tuesday of the month and at 7:30 pm on the third Tuesday of the month. Dates are subject to change so confirm the meeting schedule in the bulletin or on the website. Emails are also available to anyone requesting a reminder notice. You can attend one meeting a year or all of them so do not hesitate to join due to fear of a burdensome time commitment. You are also invited to work independently if you cannot attend the meetings. Prayer shawls (appx. 16"x54") and lapghans (32”x36”) made from acrylic yarn, no wool please, may be dropped off at the rectory to the attention of the Shawl Ministry.
Please request a Shawl/lapghan for anyone you know who might benefit from a blessing and a hug. Requests are always welcomed and appreciated at [email protected].
