Sustainable Sunday will occur on the third Sunday of the month.
The Peace and Justice Committee at St. Catharine's continues hosting "Sustainable Sundays" one Sunday each month. Following themes from Pope Francis's encyclical Laudato Si, we highlight a topic for awareness and action on how we can act sustainably to care for our common home.

November: Thanksgiving & Advent
On Sunday, November 21 St. Catharine’s Sustainable Sunday will highlight
Tips for a Sustainable Thanksgiving (click here) and provide an
Advent Calendar (click here) for you and your families. This year’s theme for Advent is “Daring to Hope!” The calendar offers simple daily spiritual reflections and actions to help you grow in your commitment to care for the poor and for our common home, thus becoming a sign of hope for future generations. We invite you to use this Advent calendar creatively in your preparations for Christmas.
April: Earth Day
On Sunday, April 18 we will highlight Earth Day! For the last 51 years, on April 21st, people around the world raise awareness of the importance of caring for our planet Earth. Many of you are likely observing this day in school and/or local events. The Catholic Climate Covenant has developed a program of prayer and action that you can use in a small group, with your family or even on your own.
On Sunday March 21 the topic is Transportation, including electric cars, carpooling, walking, public transit, planning trips to minimize travel, airline offsets, etc. We are highlighting Transportation Choices and how these choices can help us to reduce our energy consumption as well as our carbon footprint for a cleaner, healthier environment. Encourage your children to have input on how they too can help make decisions toward cleaner, healthier transportation! These small efforts together contribute to significant impact on caring for our common home!
On Sunday February 21, our parish hosted the first in an ongoing monthly series “Sustainable Sunday!” February’s theme was Food, and how our food choices impact the environment, plus recipes for delicious meatless meals.
